Battery box with on/off switch and USB-A socket. A 1A diode (1N5819) is connected in series with the USB output. The diode provides a voltage drop of 0.7V.
The output voltage with 4 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries will be: 4 x 1.5-0.7 V = 5.3V. An output voltage that works well with all types of USB powered devices. Keep in mind that the diode can handle a maximum current of 1A (1000 mA). Dimensions: 22x110x100 mm. Made of durable ABS plastic.
