The BC109 is the low-noise version of the classic BC108 transistor, used in many applications over the years. It works well as both an amplifier and a switch transistor. The fact that it has a TO-18 metal case makes it a little more power resistant, and easier to cool, than its modern successor in a plastic case.
The BC109B variant has a higher gain (hFE) than the BC107.
