Product description
Find out if the noise you are exposed to could be harmful
Measurement with the UNI-T UT353 can be done by both A-weighting (dBA) and C-weighting (dBC). In A-weighting, the instrument adapts its ‘listening’ to the human ear. C-weighted measurement takes greater account of lower frequencies than A-weighted measurement. C-weighted measurement is used when measuring short impulse sounds such as impact and shot sounds and is therefore suitable for measuring loud sounds and low frequency noise.
If you are disturbed by and want to measure traffic noise, industrial noise, aircraft noise, wind turbine noise, fan noise or fast and powerful low-frequency noise (e.g. music concerts) the UNI-T UT353 is a good solution.
Different types of noise are considered annoying or harmful at the following dBA levels:
Traffic noise levels:
Road traffic: >53 dB Lden (ca 50 dB LAeq,24h)
Rail traffic: >54 dB Lden (ca 48 dB LAeq,24h)
Air traffic: >45 dB Lden (ca 45 dB FBN)
Lden (day, evening, night level): Average noise level during a 24-hour period:
Evening events (19.00-23.00) are increased as a penalty by 5 dB due to the ear being more sensitive to disturbance in the evening and at night.
Night events (23.00-07.00) are increased by 10 dB.
Residential noise levels:
- Outdoors at facade: >55 dBA equivalent level i.e. average level for a whole day.
- Indoors: >30 dBA equivalent level
- Maximum indoor level at night: >45 dBA
- Outdoors: >70 dBA maximum level
Industrial noise levels:
- Daytime: >60 dBA
- Evening time: >55 dBA
- Night time: >50 dBA
Working environment levels:
- 85 dBA for 8 hours is considered harmful
- 88 dBA during 4 hours is considered equally harmful
- 91 dBA for 2 hours is considered equally harmful
Note that low-frequency noise and noise with a specific sound character can be perceived as disturbing even at lower levels. For such cases, the values should be lowered by 5 dBA.
